State Quarter Finals

Game 19, 21 May in State Quarterfinals at De Soto (4-1)

"Tails never fails." Just ask Kate Goza who rang up another important coin toss for us as we got to start the match with the wind, once again.

That, and Grace O’Keefe, proved to be pretty important. Grace doffed the hat in the first half. (Watch goal three where Assa heads her the ball for the assist.)

Our back four with Taylor, Hamm, and Skylee played very well again. Even against the wind, we thought De Soto's direct style that bypasses the midfield to some elite forwards is a handful. To hold De Soto out of the net for most of the game is a huge compliment to our defense. (We applaud these girls for some nice film study as well.)

We also got some much-needed rest in the second half from that group that had logged 110 minutes each on Friday. We had some excellent play off the bench as we still created some good chances in the second half, and we still kept the sheet fairly clean.

You can see how De Soto won a lot of matches and why they scored more against teams like Blue Valley than we actually did when we played them. Those last 3 minutes of the first half were immense.

We led 2-0, and it looked like that might be the halftime score with De Soto getting the wind. But we got the nice Assa-to-Grace goal and the own goal (Gabi Cox's pressure had a lot to do with that as well as the nice ball out of the back by Amanda).

Now, we get the best out of Wichita, Bishop Carroll, another 1-loss team, this Friday.

We now stand 11-7-1.

  1. Dear Craig, May your girls continue to give their best efforts in this further challenge that win or lose, they left it all on the field. Then regardless, they will be as proud as we are of them. Love, Dad
